NZMA Campus Project Wins Excellence Award at NZ Property Council Awards 2014
A purpose-built hospitality and cookery school in Sylvia Park, Auckland has claimed one of the top awards in the New Zealand Property Council’s prestigious Rider Levett Bucknall property awards.
NZMA’s Sylvia Park Campus claimed an excellence award in the Coffey Education and Arts Property category, up against six other organisations including Victoria University, AUT, St Mary’s College and the Wellsford War Memorial Library.
The awards celebrate the best of the property sector in New Zealand
“We are delighted with our purpose built campus at Sylvia Park, because it offers our students leading-edge facilities for cookery and hospitality training. To have the facilities recognised in these prestigious awards just affirms the decision we made to build the campus from scratch, exactly the way we needed it for training and Industry purposes”, she said.
The architecturally designed training facility houses two training kitchens, a commercial kitchen, a 150-seat café, training bar, restaurant and barista room, as well as classrooms, cyber suites and offices. Currently around 700 students study there each week.
Previously an industrial space, Matthew Godward from Godward Design Space transformed the building into a modern multi-purpose campus, which opened in February this year. The striking interior fit out honours the building’s industrial past as well as embracing modern materials such as lacquered cabinetry and railway tiles. Significant thought has also been given to the exterior of the building – NZMA commissioned top New Zealand street artist Sparrow Phillips to create a 40 metre x 11 metre outdoor mural to celebrate the provider’s core values and multicultural flavour.
